"WE WANT A WORLD WITHOUT BORDERS" IN 2009

(By Ramón D. Marín)

Hello people, I'm inviting you to reflect about the future.

So far in our planet we have:

  • Enough land to grow products, build housing, live in peace with God, nature and ourselves.

  • Enough wealth.

  • Enough raw materials.

  • Enough water, air and natural resources.

  • Large quantities of human beings with unsatisfied needs.

  • Enough potential helping hands.

  • Wealth Concentration.

  • A vicious circle that makes capitals to get more and more concentrated.

  • The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

  • Variety of economical and political models in all countries of the world.

  • Function of all governments: to ensure all rights and obligations fulfilled and needs satisfied.

By these accounts, some are eating the food that was meant for others, or wearing the clothes that should be sheltering others, or occupying the living space, and the public funds being used for other purposes such as war.

The forgotten

We work hard all life long to earn a well deserved retirement. Some even get to secure their children and grandchildrens future. It's true that the capitals, nowadays, bring well-being to those of us who make them bigger with our hard work; but what if we mentioned the forgotten?

It's no exaggeration to say that the forgotten are the majority. Those who have money to buy have already bought enough, and those who need to buy have no money to buy; then, more or less all of a sudden, inflation comes, together with high or low rates, slowdown, market collapse, recession, depression; let alone wars, because the economic situation generated this and this generated that and... That means that the economic future of children and grandchildren is not so secured after all.

How would a globalized planet be?

It's pertinent (especially if we think about children, grandchildren, and great-grand children) to reflect about the economy and government model(s) of the future; taking into account the fact that we are in favor of a planet earth functioning in a globalized manner, thats to say, with laws more or less uniform all over, public budgets equitably distributed (according to the needs of the population), control by the state of the aspects that need to be controlled (especially the economy because we dont have 3 worlds but one only), free circulation of the citizens all over the territory, respect for the rights of the individual; all this guaranteed by a political constitution that rules all acts in the territory, and global institutions ensuring enforcement of the constitution and the laws.

In moments of idealism and romanticism they talked about the state, on behalf of the proletariat, controlling all activities of daily life (even suppressing individual liberties) and holding ownership of the production means. But it still remains to be seen that the state and the proletariat are actually the same question. It also has been said that when the state holds ownership of all capitals, its inefficiency as administrator leads to the atrophy of the production chain, resulting in the fatal insufficiency of production levels. However In my humble opinion, I agree with those who believe that private property, as we know it, will disappear in the future, being succeeded by a combination of production models.

I'd also like to bring your attention to the role of the state in the lack of respect for life and dignity and human rights in general (especially the rights of the more vulnerable). I'm saying this in order to point out that, in my opinion, we common people are too vulnerable and frail at the immeasurable power of governments and regimes. There are so many occasions in which we have a feeling of it cant be real that this is happening in front of our powerless eyes. However, it's not the state trampling over peoples rights (in numerous occasions) but those in charge. It's necessary to create a global institution strong enough to neutralize the harmful aspects of power, and/or strengthen the existing institutions that have that mission.

And finally, one more reflection: let's think, for example, about presidents and chiefs of state and lets ask ourselves if we should doubt of their good intentions when they are committed to caring for their country and only their country. In other words, is my own good Goodness always? Let's consider this: Goodness begins when we see everyone as our equal and not only those inside our circle.

Love ♥ Peace

Ramón
